Yes, I'm sitting in class, writing on my blog. I am a bad, bad girl.
My History and Philosophy class on Tuesday nights meets primarily in Pocatello, with distance sites in Boise and Idaho Falls. We get the class broadcast to us on a TV, and there are cameras and microphones so we can interact with each other. There are three people in Boise, but I'm the only one in Idaho Falls. Someone is giving his research paper presentation on Academic Freedom. It's fascinating, really. That's why I'm blogging. (I really hope he isn't secretly stalking my on my blog).
My life has been taken over with this paper I'm writing. It's due next Monday, so I will be back to the real world after that (maybe). My goal is to write four pages each day.
By the way, welcome my honey to the blogging world! It will be fun to see what he has to say. We may even get some of his family hooked on blogging.
See you on the other side of my paper!

Mourning the Loss
My poor car has lost its voice. It has had a lovely singing voice for about a year and a half. Every time I use the breaks, coast, turn a corner, or pretty much do anything, my car serenaded me with the loveliest squealing and screeching. It was also quite useful in announcing my arrival. When I pulled up to a group of students to give them a ride to symphony, they all knew it was me. The neighborhood always knew when it was me coming around the corner.
I took it to the shop this week, and for some reason when I got it back it had lost its voice! I'm not sure what they did, but I'm seriously considering suing for malpractice or something. All my car does now is purr like a kitten. Now Joni's going to want a ride more often because she won't be embarrassed. Those car repair people are sure making my life difficult!
I'll have to find something else to fill the deafening silence. Like my singing.

Interpret This
I had a dream last night that I had a baby. As soon as I delivered, I had to call the music department to let them know I wouldn't be in that day, but assure them that I would be teaching the next day. We were leaving the hospital soon after that, and almost forgot our baby. Someone stopped us to ask if we wanted to see her. We went into the nursery, and instead of the normal bassinet, our baby was sleeping in a viola case.
Am I doomed to be a bad mother?

The End
Winter semester is officially over! I submitted my grades this morning, and I now have a whole week off before summer semester starts! What to do with my time??
Oh yeah, I remember. I have a 25 page research paper to write for one of my doctoral classes. Is it sad that I'm kind of looking forward to writing it? I'm comparing conservatories and public university music programs from an administrative perspective, comparing things like government funding, curriculum, scholarships, philanthropic contributions, etc. I'm using my alma mater as my example since it is a hybrid of the two.
Sounds riveting, doesn't it? I can post my results since I'm sure you'll all be on the edge of your chairs waiting for it.
I overheard one of my students last week complaining that she had to write a three page paper by the next day. Three pages? I can spew out three pages in twenty minutes! Its that 350 page book I'll have to write that worries me...
On a side note, look what I found peeking out from the snow covered ground in my front yard this morning!!!

Spring in Rexburg
It's so warm and sunny outside! I didn't even have to wear my ski coat to work. It's jacket weather! I'd better not stay outside too long or I'll get a sunburn!
Oh wait, it's only 36 degrees outside.
Who cares? It still feels like spring! I'm going to go plant my flower garden.
If only I could figure out where my garden is. . .

Food for Thought
A lesson for all (especially myself):
There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance.
There is a fine line between self-doubt and arrogance.
